I received an e-mail the other day from someone who was interested in learning more about the kinds of photography out there. So I have made a quick list of a few types/forms of photography.
- Macro Photography:
refers to close-up photography; the classical definition that the image projected on the “film plane” (i.e film or a digital sensor) is the same size as the subject. On 35 mm film (for example), the lens must have the ability to focus on an area at least as small as 24×36 mm, as this is the size of the image on the film. This is known as “life-size magnification” or simply 1:1.

- Nature Photography:
refers to a wide range of photography taken outdoors and devoted to displaying natural elements such as landscapes, wildlife, plants, and close-ups of natural scenes and textures. Nature photography tends to put a stronger emphasis on the aesthetic value of the photo than other photography genres, such as photojournalism and documentary photography.
